Universal wiring kits are used in older cars, where the installation does not require an additional module in order to work correctly. They can be used successfully in vehicles: without a CAN-BUS, an on-board computer, Multiplex / PWM lighting, LED lighting or a Check-Control system. We offer universal wiring kits with a 7 and 13 –PIN socket, with various cable lengths adapted to the installation needs.
Universal wiring kits with an electrical module are used in vehicles where the additional load of the trailer lighting causes the computer to signal an error. This module is usually fitted under the upholstery in the car boot. The car's lighting systems control the trailer module, which is powered with 12V from the car battery and is responsible for the complete lighting of the trailer. Such control results in a negligible current load on the car's lighting systems, so the car's computer does not detect any errors. A wiring kit fitted with an electronic module is a necessity in the case of cars with more advanced electronics. Such systems may, however, be found in some older cars and in the vast majority of newer vehicles. If the car has an electronic light control system (so-called Check-Control) or its electrical system is based on a CAN-BUS, the use of a wiring kit with a module is mandatory. Installing a wiring kit without a module in a car that requires one may, at best, result in a lack of lighting on the trailer/bike platform and, at worst, in serious damage to the vehicle's electrical system.
Dedicated wiring kits are without doubt the most convenient solution, as they are mounted in factory-prepared points in the boot of a specific car, so they do not require any interference with the electrical system. Fitting a dedicated wiring kit does not require specialist knowledge, because the kit has ready connectors matching the car's wiring and matched cable lengths, which makes installation easier and quicker. Depending on the make and model of the car, dedicated wiring kits have specific functions. The kits work with the car's safety systems, e.g. T-ESP. Such a solution helps to avoid damage to cables or electronic systems. The use of electronic wiring kits guarantees the correct and safe operation of the entire electrical system of the car and the trailer. Original wiring kits are intended for a specific make, model and year of the car, which makes them the safest solution.
